On December 31, 2010 a team of runners from NORRES competed in a three-mile New Year run on the site of the Zollverein pit in Essen, a World Cultural Heritage monument. They celebrated the end of the year together with a memorable sporting feat.
Despite the poor conditions attributable to the winter weather, Team Essen ’99 e.V. – the sports club responsible for organising the race – decided to go ahead as planned with the New Year run. The paths were cleared of snow as far as possible just before the start, enabling 2010 to be wound up on a sporting note in keeping with the race motto: “Not a huge event but one with heart and soul”.
“I can genuinely recommend the New Year run as a great morning out that is a lot of fun”, said Burkhard Mollen, Proprietor and Managing Director of NORRES.
