On Wednesday, February 16 a group of schoolchildren from Carl-Friedrich Gauss Grammar School paid a visit to NORRES Schlauchtechnik in the framework of a vocational preparation course. This course, which is compulsory for all pupils at the school, aims to improve their ability to make the right career choice. They also have an opportunity to establish initial contacts for their forthcoming work experience placements. At the same time, the course provides valuable training upfront of their first interviews. After all, it’s not enough simply to choose the right career – optimal preparation for the application process is an essential precondition of being offered the perfect job.
As far as NORRES is concerned, the vocational preparation course is a welcome chance to present itself as an employer. In short, it is a win-win event that enables both sides – potential employer and potential employees – to get to know one another better.
The schoolchildren arrived at the NORRES plant at 8.30 a.m. The day kicked off with a presentation of the company, followed by a tour of the production shop, warehouse and office building. The young visitors gained an interesting insight into the organisation in general and learned what goes on in its various departments.
After lunch, they were treated to specific preparation and training for their entry into the professional world. As a general rule, anyone who receives an invitation to an interview has, by definition, already progressed from the initial application stage to the shortlist. They now have to convince their prospective employer in person. This is where NORRES’ job application training comes in. First of all, the youngsters were asked to complete a written application test. They were then guided through a few typical interview scenarios and given useful tips about application do’s and don’ts.
Managing Director Burkhard Mollen willingly took the time to help the grammar school pupils fit themselves for this future challenge: “Efficient preparation is the best strategy for mastering application situations in real life. That’s why we’re pleased to lend our active support to the schoolchildren participating in this vocational preparation course and familiarise them with the application and interview process”.
